A nice overview and some interesting new products. Pico Jumbo looks great and loving the luxury of the reset button! It seems a shame the 8 ADC-capable GPIO are only on the B version of the RP2350 (QFN 80). I'll ask in the Pi forum why this is the case. For mention of connectors at16:58 (and 28:32) I would say we are still in the transition phase. USB-C will be common with moderate wealth in the developed world but for those with a tighter budget or trying to maximise the lifetime of their electronics or awaiting the next hardware refresh cycle there's still a lot of USB-A/B/micro-USB out there.
Kev! And Paul!
Gents! I just received my NVMe base. What a slick bit of kit I must say. Thank you kindly I will gladly purchase your products made in the UK as opposed to that “other” place. 👍👍
Catching up on things after dc32. Loving the new items offerings from Pimoroni. When we had a first quick glance after getting our vendor badges we thought it was a 2040 then quickly realized it was the 2350!
Love the jumbo 8-)
Performance closer to the esp32 s3 with the simplicity to develop for of the Pico, sounds great
The new Explorer looks awesome. I have the original, I was a little disappointed with the speaker. A proper speaker is a great advancement along with a bigger screen. It has definite game appeal.
Hi guys love your products. Ordered many this weekend. Can you do a pico 2 plus plus same size as plus but also somehow fits in sd card and a hdmi port (since pico 2 added hdmi hardware bits to it) even a micro or mini if that’s all you can fit? I bet you sell a lot to the emulator crowd. Also can you do an explorer plus? I really think it should have that 8megs of sram for prototyping
Wait no USB-C?
You guys are awesome. Great line up
I don't believe the Pico 2 comes with onboard WiFi/Bluetooth/BLE as of yet. But the RP2350 is a nice update to the RP2040. Also the larger form factor chip has 48 GPIO pins those extra pins and cores will come in handy for many makers.
Yeah that will be the Pico 2 W in six months
On the close up camera, you should turn off automatic focus so it doesn't keep trying to focus on the background rather than the thing you're holding up
hey guys... hmm such small sbc i search for....i wanna make a mp3 mp4 player... wothout os like win or linux... i only wanna use such mediaplayer software and a 7 inch touch display....what sbc is usefull for that... raspi 4 or 5 is to big only for musik and videos... is their any mp3/4 standalone software for such smal sbc ?
Maybe Elecrow 7 inch Crow Panel.
CrowPanel 7.0" -HMI ESP32 Display 800x480 RGB TFT LCD Touch Screen Compatible with Arduino/LVGL/ PlatformIO/Micropython $30.
Great products from Pimoroni. I put in an order this morning. I really like the Plasma 2040 and the Plasma 2350 with, hooray, more pinouts is even better. For controlling LEDs and Neopixels on a model railway this is perfect. ❤
Hi Kev and Guru, some nice boards there.
Note to self don't put things with writing on them behind so the autofocus doesn't keep focusing on the background
Ahoy me hearties! Can you reveal where you get the PCBs with the full RGB artwork made, and maybe something of the process for making them? Are they economical in one-off quantities? It'd be a great way of legending keypads and making fancy control panels. RPi's choice to put the RISC-V cores on the same chip without the ability to use all four at once seems very strange to me. I would have gone for two different chip variants. That would have avoided paying the ARM licence on the V variant and also reduced the area and therefore the cost of BOTH variants. Question for Eben next time he is interviewed!
JLCPCB and PCBWay are both offering a colour printing service in smaller numbers. Not sure on the economics for smaller orders, but the price should be bearable for a handful of boards. For JLC you have to use their software to basically import your Gerbers, then plonk a PNG/JPG over the top of it in EasyEDA. There are a few gotchas in the process to avoid printing on pads but that's something you can work through with their technicians. www.pcbway.com/blog/News/Unlock_Color_PCB_Printing_with_PCBWay_0939d559.html jlcpcb.com/blog/multi-color-silkscreen-pcb I think they already have enough chip variants to look after this time :-). Offering another option would have meant have twice as many SKUs to control. This was definitely the solution that meant the fewest engineering/business headaches which making it happen at all. There are some good snippets on use of wafer space from Luke Wren if you hunt through the RPi blog and comments.
520k of RAM. I first thought, how should I ever need so much RAM but then I remembered that I already twice used up almost all RAM of the 264k in the RP2040. One in CircuitPython which isn’t all that difficult. But one in C which is a feat to behold :D. I had to use malloc a lot!
It's great for decent framebuffers for the kind of displays we like to drive (and DVI/HDMI output :)
Walk the plank…. The real world use for Pico Jumbo! Love it 🥰
Servo 2350 when?
Good question. I'll ask Chris. I think waving serial servos in front of him for Yukon made implementing more than 18 servos go down his priority list :-)
So how do you use the RAM and flash at the same time? Is the shared bus not slow it down alot?
Chip Select on the QSPI line to switch between them. It'll be slower than main RAM, sure, but you get a buttload of memory in return and it's plenty fast unless you're doing something really intensive. In that case, there is a load of overclocking headroom if you need more throughput.
Does your stuff support C programming and Arduino IDE yet? I bought one of your products once and it's Python only and not a word on C support so I had to throw it to the trash and bought something from TinyCircuits instead. Any changes on that front?
Pico jumbo LMAO. That'ts a huge ass PCB 😆
What I want is a board using the B version but with all the GPIO available. I'm building an ortholinear 8×32 keyboard and with all the additional GPIO ports I won't have to use a I²C multiplexer.
PGA2350 is as close as you'll get, but you need to attach the USB port, which might actually work for your purposes. Also checkout the STAMPs from Solder Party!
@@pimoroni Why not a Mega 2350? I want 48 GPIO on 0.1" headers.
Present micropython will support 1 set of cores, when does it support the 2 sets?
There's a preview build for the RISC-V on the MP site: micropython.org/download/RPI_PICO2/ It's currently all ARM or all RISC-V.
Might get one PICO Display
I like the PICO display
Impressive boards!
The Pico ADC used to be completely useless without an external reference voltage and/or a dead-stable power source. Has that improved with the Pico 2, or your Plus version? This is almost certainly not SoC related, but all in the voltage regulator and other analog components.
More ADC channels (on the big chip). Different power system and they fixed the discontinuity spikes in the readings. We've not characterised it yet.
@@pimoroni Thanks. Looking forward to it.
Specs say USB still 1.1 why? At least upgrade it to usb2.0. 🤷♂️
and you're going to pay with area for it? Why? It's not an important functionality for an MCU.
I checked digikey, and the cheapest MCU with USB2.0 was $2.31 compared to the $1 nominal price of a 2350A. That said, we've overclocked some chips to 480MHz, so I reckon it's only a matter of time before someone PIOs it ;-)
Do you have any standalone 2350B boards in 0.6" wide format in the works? I want to get at those extra GPIOs, but your lanyard format board doesn't do that for me.
The PGA2350 is the closest we've got which breaks out all the pins on the bigger board.
Amazing stuff! I particularly enjoyed the Pico Jumbo. I'm assuming a large Captain Resetti will follow soon... in which case I'm gonna need a bigger soldering iron. 😉
I can't wait for the W version. Will the enviro line get an update?
It's likely we'll have a separate remote sensor setup or rely on more Qw/ST ports for sensors in the future rather than trying to nail down a new Enviro that works for everyone. We have some products in the works that should scratch the itch tho :-)
Can u make a video on how to get breadboard os onto the pico
Breadboard OS looks pretty sweet. We'd love it to go even further and be CLI ON the Pico 2.
@@pimoroni can u make a video on how to put it on the normal pico
So.. wheres the badger 2350? It better have rechargeable battery circuitry
That one definitely needs to wait for Wireless.
of course they release it after i buy 3 pico's LMAO. I'm excited for extra ram though, that's always super useful!!
Mwahahaha! That's how we get you! At least the Picos are budget-friendly, and there's always a little project for them that doesn't need the extra grunt.
Interesting stuff!
Bring back the bilgetank
Considering this is pre-recorded, the fact their heads are always cropped out, or the camera is too high in the face shots does grate
Yeah, we corrupted Kev's usual format which is not build for two talking-heads. Glad he was there to do the stream, even if it didn't stream live here.
Just ordered 2. Can't wait for "W" version
gah!, I took it for granted it had wifi... thanks for heads up.
It'll come, and hopefully sooner rather than later.
No USB C. Still the crappy old one? SH*T
Pimoroni are making two RP2350 boards with USB-C. MicroUSB makes sense for the Pico 2 to let it be a drop in for Pico 1 projects
@@Padgriffin Yes, I know. I was a bit reacting to the "official" rpi. Eben should have known better. I will not buy theirs.
probably they wanted it to be drop-in replacement, keeping all io and dimensions the same
We definitely take it for granted that USB-C is the go-to now. Raspberry Pi do have a global user base, and a bunch of them live in places where USB-C adoption isn't a thing yet. I don't like micro-USB any more, but I can see why it's still being used.
Can you run DOOM on it?
The previous one could 😁 they have a doom running on a lego brick, look it up.
Already ordered one from you guys 👍🏻 See a new Raspberry Pi product and be like, must order 😂. Love the fact it's got RISC-V cores that you can play with as well as the standard cores ❤️
Yes, having a CPU with RISC architecture it's a great toy for the ones that can take advantage of it. With AI on the rise we are going to start seeing some pretty cool stuff.
If it is a pico w does it also have bluetooth?
Yep!
How many panels can it drive at a time?
ordered my one last week,,,,,, so many screws :) as an owner of the 1st Picade ( large screen ) looking forward too 2 players. already have the pi 5, heatsink fan and nvme pcb all from pimoroni, what size nvme do you suggest,, 500gb too small , too big ?? only going for the boring Arcade stuff and maybe early consoles. ( at my age early consoles are 1975 - 1995 ( ish ), ) looking forward to not having too many screws left over :D
The last pieces just dropped into place, so we're shipping out the betas from tomorrow \o/ 500GB is a good sweet spot for a fairly comprehensive collection and is a good price point per GB. You'll probably get away with 250GB just fine for early stuff.
@@kevin1970 I went OTT and got a 2tb SSD, but it will have plenty of room to pack out each platform in the future, as well as house the rather large pre-built images from places like ArcadePunks, which are over a TB in size with all the graphics and videos etc 👍🏻
Teasing us before the beta kits start shipping out 😩
That looks good, but could you turn it into an E-Book reader?
Pimoroni should make an E-Book reader but 6" screen it would be awesome, I would purchase one.
is it usable without jig?
I can report that the TEAMGROUP MP44Q 1TB SLC Cache Gen 4x4 M.2 works.
